001: Finding the Rhythm

Welcome to Simple Thoughts by West.

I’ve always found a strange parallel between the two things I spend most of my time doing: rowing and coding.

On the surface, they couldn't be more different. One is loud, physical, and involves the spray of water and the burn of lactic acid. The other is quiet, abstract, and happens entirely within the glow of a monitor.

But at their core, they are both about rhythm and efficiency.

The Connection

  • In the boat: You are looking for that perfect "swing"—the moment where every ounce of effort translates into forward motion without waste.

  • In the code: You are looking for the "flow"—where the logic is clean, the functions are lean, and the solution feels inevitable.

What to Expect Here
This site is my personal log. It won’t always be polished, but it will always be honest. You’ll find:

  • Training Data: Raw notes from my rowing sessions, erg scores, and lessons learned on the water.

  • Technical Snippets: Thoughts on languages I’m learning, bugs I’m squashing, and tools that make life easier.

  • The "Simple" Philosophy: Observations on how to keep life, sport, and work from getting too cluttered.

Thanks for stopping by. Let’s see where the current takes us.
